Sheikh Humaid met the pair on a visit to a refugee camp in Jordan.

Talk about leading by example. His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, will be adopting a Syrian brother and sister after they lost their parents and their home.

Reem and Abdul Kareem’s parents were killed right in front of them, the Khaleej Times reports, and their heartbreaking story obviously spoke to Sheikh Humaid. He’s taken full responsibility for caring for the brother and sister.

The UAE pledges to open its doors to 15,000 Syrian refugees

The news broke via a short video posted by MSDAR News, which you can view here:

In the video, Sheikh Humaid asks the pair if they would like to come and live in his palace, and elder sibling Reem says yes. The moment has obviously resonated, as the clip has been viewed over 7,000 times.

Reem and Abdul were offered special care during their time at the camp to help ease the trauma they faced in their home country, the Khaleej Times reports.

Last year, the UAE promised to take in 15,000 Syrian refugees, on top of the 123,000 who at that time had settled as residents. War has ravaged the country for six and a half years.

The move comes as HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, sends a further 91 metric tonnes of supplies to the Rohingya people taking refuge in Bangladesh.
