Dhs1,000 for a gold and caviar facial anyone?

Dubai is a city that knows a thing or two about decadence (this gold-topped cappuccino is a case in point) and put it this way, its newest spa stays true to form.

The Palazzo Versace Hotel, which celebrated its official opening with Donatella herself just a few months ago, has recently opened the doors to its on-site spa.

And the 1,000-square-metre wellness centre (called, unsurprisingly, The Spa) looks like everything we thought it’d be.

Think aqua-themed towels clad in the luxury fashion label’s distinctive insignia, shimmering black tiles, thousands of mosaics, mother-of-pearl details, and marble floors.

The ground-floor spa is made up of seven treatment rooms, a nail salon, two hammams, saunas, steam rooms, hair and makeup studios, and plunge pools.

If you want to bring a plus one along, there’s also a treatment suite with a private jacuzzi for couples.

But it’s the menu that’s really got us oohing and aahing.

Naturally there’s staples such as mani/pedis, hot stone massages and oxygen facials, but there’s also some more out-there options.

What about a facial using green caviar and 24 carat gold, designed to “repair and revamp” your skin? The 90-minute treatment will set you back Dhs1,000, but it’s not the most opulent option out there.

The seven-hour Ultimate package, which includes five treatments, plus transport via a chauffeur-driven Maserati, breakfast, a two-course lunch, and bubbly, will set you back – gulp – Dhs4,200. But isn’t that worth it to feel like a proper Hollywood celeb for the day?

There’s also a 24Kt package – weighing in at Dhs2,000 – that includes a massage with gold dust, a full-body exfoliation, and something we’re fancying called a “skin brightening cocoon”.

But don’t worry, there’s stuff to suit every budget, with facials starting at Dhs750 (OK, so maybe not every budget), and massages from Dhs520. Body treatments start from Dhs325, and nail shaping from Dhs100, so it could be a nice birthday treat for mum.

Keen? The spa’s open from 9am to 11pm, but you have to have a treatment booked to use the facilities. There’s more information on the website – meanwhile we’re starting a savings fund for the Maserati-ride-meets-pampering-sesh packages…
