La Residence: Restaurant Review

For those who hate brunch there is the evening eat and drink, and for those who like such deals but want a less debauched affair there is La Residence.

Decor

Dark wooden panelled walls, which are decked with amazing black and white vintage photos of celebs – it’s like a coffee table book has come to life. Plush leather chairs, a grand piano and subtle lightening makes for a elegant and sultry setting. Very Parisian.

Ambience

While it wasn’t full – we put this down to the manic traffic on Sheikh Zayed road putting people off – you don’t feel like you’re the only ones there or that you are being watched by the staff, who are incredibly attentive and a lot fun. We have to give a special shout out Star, who was the most wonderful host taking care of everyone’s needs – no matter how big or small – all with a smile on her face.

The three-course set menu changes regularly

Food

What makes La Residence a great evening eat and drink option is that it’s not predictable. As part of the package guests get to choose a three course meal from a specially created set menu with three options for each course. To avoid guests getting bored, especially if they become regulars, and to allow the chefs to UAE the most fresh ingredients, the dishes constantly change on the menu.

On our menu the tuna tartare starter was fresh and meaty with just the right amount of truffle oil drizzled on top. The sea bass main, served with a roasted artichoke, was as delicious as it was beautifully presented.

The big show-piece however had to be the fruit salad and sorbet. Big enough for two to three people it was served in a gigantic cocktail glass filled with ice on which exotic fruit from around the world – think dragon fruit, and mangosteen – were displayed next to balls of fruit sorbet.

As part of the deal there is an extensive drinks menu with soft drinks, house beverages and creative cocktails.
