One of our favourite royals is making history.

The Duke of Cambridge has just gone where no member of his family has before. Prince William yesterday became the first British royal to visit Palestine.

It was an important visit for the 36-year-old, who is second in the line to the throne. The prince spent the day visiting government officials, a refugee camp, and even found the time for a spot of football with some residents.

The royal visited the Jalazone Refugee Camp in Ramallah which is run by UNRWA, the United Nations agency dedicated to Palestinian refugees. He interacted with staff that administer the medical programmes, as well as young mothers who bring their babies to the centre for vaccinations.

He also made a quick stop at Jalazone Girls’ School, where he sat down with a group of students to hear their stories.

The prince then ditched the car and went on a walking tour of Ramallah – the best way to explore a city, if you ask us. He was joined by the mayor of Ramallah, Musa Hadid, and was treated to a cultural performance in the heart of the city.

Prince William also met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank, where, according to The National, he said: “My sentiments are the same as yours in hoping that there is a lasting peace in the region.”

Official meetings aside, the prince then visited the Ramallah Friends School where he took the field along with some young footballers.

We can’t help but be reminded of the now-famous image of him watching the World Cup with Crown Prince Hussein (by the way, happy birthday CP) shortly after the British royal landed in Jordan a few days ago to begin his tour of the Middle East.

The Duke of Cambridge has once again shown why he is the perfect 21st century prince. We hope to see him back in the region again soon.
