“I chased her for many months, calling and writing, those kinds of things.”

The Ocean’s Eleven star told David Letterman it wasn’t all plain sailing from the start, however, and he pursued the British-Lebanese barrister for some time before they made it official.

“She was a friend of a friend who came to visit and then I chased her for many months, calling and writing, those kinds of things,” George said, according to Elle.

The star is also set to appear on Letterman’s new Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, in February, where—according to Variety—he introduces the US TV host to the Iraqi refugee he and Amal helped get settled in the States.

The A-list couple, who wed in Venice in 2014, are well-known for their philanthropic efforts, last year pledging Dhs9.18 million towards helping educate Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Dhs3.67 million towards fighting hate groups in the US.

In fact, 2017 was extremely busy for the pair who welcomed their first children—twins Ella and Alexander—in June.

The couple are typically private about their personal lives, though George did reveal his experience of fatherhood with his twins has been “really fun” so far.

The director-producer dished on the couple’s approach to parenting in November, telling the Sydney Morning Herald “[the twins] are the best audience I’ve ever had”.

“Five months ago, they weren’t here. And now, they’re both very different; he’s this little thug, this out-there personality, and she’s very sweet-natured and dainty,” the Oscar winner said.

When quizzed on his nappy-changing abilities, George revealed the A-list couple do everything themselves, rather than rely on a nanny.

“What’s the point of being a parent if you don’t get your hands dirty? That’s what it’s all about,” he told the Australian newspaper.

The actor has also previously revealed how he popped the question to his accomplished spouse, telling Ellen DeGeneres in 2016 he proposed over dinner at their home.

“She reached out, she pulled out the box, and I’ve got just the ring sitting in there. And, she pulls it out and she looks at it, and she’s like ‘it’s a ring’,” George said.

“I got down on my knee and said ‘I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you’.”
