Here’s how to keep those flyaways under control during a humid summer.

Nothing wreaks havoc on your hair quite like steamy summer days mixed with freezing air-conditioned offices.

Case in point: as we write this, our ‘do more resembles candyfloss rather than strands of human hair.

And while we can bundle our locks into stylish turban for the next few weeks, sometimes we just want to leave it loose and care-free.

To help, we’ve been turning to certain shampoos to fight the frizz with as little effort as possible.

Here, we’ve pulled together four tried-and-tested formulas that have definitely left our locks smoother, shinier and a little more amenable to the laws of gravity.

Ouai Smooth Shampoo, Dhs130

The brand created by celebrity stylist Jen Atkin (the woman behind Gigi Hadid’s mane) is full of sulphate-free options, all of which are well-suited to curlier, unrulier hair types. (Sulphates, which are what most shampoos use to help them lather, can strip hair of colour and moisture, leaving strands more prone to misbehaving). However the standout star of the line is the Smooth Shampoo, with a creamy, salon-smelling formula that leaves hair feeling exceptionally clean but a lot softer. We’re already on bottle No 2.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of this wallet-friendly, sulfate-free line, but we’ve had particular success with this one. Better for thicker hair types (it contains coconut oil, avocado oil and cocoa butter) it gives enough weight to the hair to stop those flyaways roaming free.

If you find the Ouai formula a little too rich for super-fine hair, this option from French hairdresser Christophe Robin is just as effective, yet more lightweight. It’s also silicone-free (if you find silicones give you rather lank locks) and really gentle. The Turkish delight-inspired smell is an added bonus.

Kératase Bain Oléo-Relax, Dhs130

This is a salon-recommended-favourite for a reason – it really does work. Giving locks plenty of discipline, this summer-smelling shampoo adds plenty of shine as it tames. It also manages to add bounce to the roots, and weight to the ends – it’s almost like magic.
