EW Manifest, Throwback Denim Pieces

If you read our guide to nouveau denim last week then you will know, when it comes to fashion trends, it’s all about the blues as team EW reveals.

DESIGNER DENIM –  Sophia Serin, Group Editor (pictured above)

This is the kind of dress that, whatever the day or mood, will make you feel great. The lightweight denim hangs perfectly while the embroidered sleeves transform it into a fun, fantastical option for anyone who loves wearing the blue stuff.

Every wardrobe needs a shirt dress, correction, a denim shirt dress. Add tousled hair, a dash of fringing and knee-high boots and you’ve got yourself an easy, breezy daytime look with just the right amount of retro vibes.

Designers aren’t the only ones who do a damn good job of denim – the high street is awash with it too. Take this retro A-line skirt for example. My mum thought I’d commandeered it from her wardrobe, while my friends assumed it was a gem from the upper echelons of fashawn. I can smugly say it’s neither.

I had a pair of platforms like these in the 90s when the Spice Girls made them cool. Victoria Beckham et al have moved on since then, and so has the platform shoe. Bold, bulky, denim and studded, these Charlotte Olympia wedges know how to make a statement. Teamed with funky shades and a simple shift dress, I feel like the Baby Spice of 2015.

Jeans don’t usually make it into my style vocabulary as I tend to find myself on a continual quest for something with a little extra flair, yes I said it, flair. Cue Topshop’s clean-cut 70s-inspired flares, in only the most flattering shade of indigo which are a now permanent fixture in my work wardrobe.

When I think of festival fashion, Coachella is pretty much king, which means when I land in LA this month I need to seriously step up my style game. Cue this 70s denim playsuit from Stella McCartney, I’m attempting to channel that gypset vibe. Find me front of stage, flowers in my hair getting lost in the music.
