The only place that topped it? Paris.

Well, here’s one we could have told you ourselves. Dubai has been ranked as the second-best city in the world for luxury travellers, behind only the French capital of Paris.

Not bad for a city that’s only 46 years old, we’d say. We really are known for loving the finer things in life around here.

The Emirate was voted into the number two spot by over 3 million survey respondents on the travel site Luxury Hotel Guide, Khaleej Times reports.

While Dubai was pipped by Paris, it outperformed popular destinations like New York, London, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

After all, can those locales claim the seven-star Burj Al Arab? We think not. The newly opened Bulgari Resort should help maintain the city’s status into 2018, too.

Back in September, the Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index said Dubai was the fourth-most visited city in the world, after Bangkok, London and Paris. Dubai saw 14.87 million visitors in 2016, the index said, and could expect 7.7 per cent growth for this year.

In the same study, Dubai was ranked as number one for overnight visitor spending. Tourists dropped $28.5 billion (Dhs105.67b) on one-night trips in the city, which we’d say comes down to the classic stopover visit between flights.

Stay a little longer next time, why don’t you?
