If you’ve ever complained about the standard of driving in Sharjah, that’s soon about to change.

A number of new high-accuracy, locally-made radars have been introduced to the emirate, a senior Sharjah Police official has said.

What’s the radar for? It’ll monitor and keep track of those who overtake on the hard shoulder as well as those who fail to stay in their lanes.

The radars are kitted out with an HD camera and employ an advanced photo and video system.

Initially, a total of 10 radars will be introduced, with the Sharjah Police planning to increase the number over time.

The radars have been installed on Sharjah’s main streets including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road as well as Al Ittihad.

Speaking to Gulf NewsCaptain Bu Afra of the Sharjah Police mentioned how the radars would help to ease traffic flow during peak hours by 30 per cent.

The radar was designed by the General Headquarters of the Sharjah Police in collaboration with the Departments of Traffic and Patrols and Electronic Services and Telecommunications.

This comes soon after a new three kilometre road opened up to ease congestion near the National Paints Bridge.

The Dhs49 million road runs from behind the Sharjah English School (opposite Sharjah University City) and continues up until the Oud Rakan Bridge on Maliha Road.

The new road connects directly to Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (MBZR) so commuters traveling to Sharjah via the MBZR can use the new road as an alternative in order to reduce congestion.
