Cutesy actress and singer Zooey Deschanel has hooked up with American designer Tommy Hilfiger to create a capsule collection named, To Tommy, From Zooey.
Deschanel, who stars in HBO’s New Girl as well as fronting the indie folk band She & Him said to WWD about the unique collaboration: “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations – old school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.”
The actress’ vision is around 4,000 miles from Tommy’s usual all-American preppy aesthetic, as they look to London, during the swinging sixties, for inspiration with short dresses that could’ve been worn by a “Jean Shrimpton” or “Twiggy” said Hilfiger. When questioned about the collection the renowned designer added: “Think very flirty fabrics and interesting details – [it’s] a new way to look at the fun American classics.” Many of Deschanel’s designs are in the iconic colours of red, white and blue, which will no doubt will please the US audience and Hilfiger fans, too.
The range is not far from Deschanel’s picks for the red carpet or TV appearances, with her own fashion mantra being: “I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe. I’m an old-fashioned girl. I love old music, screwball comedies and vintage. I love clothes. It’s an addiction. I like to go down Melrose and look in all the windows and I go to different flea markets. I have lots of costumes. You never know when you’re going to have to dress up like a milkmaid from the 1600s.”
We, most certainly, can’t wait for collection to launch.
The collection will be available from macys.com on April 14 and arriving on tommy.com on April 21.
