Six months after welcoming his first child with his girlfriend Gigi Hadid, Zayn Malik has opened up about his life as a new father to baby Khai Hadid-Malik.
In an interview with iHeartRadio 104.3 FM, Malik gushed about how “amazing” fatherhood is and how easy his daughter is as a baby.
“Honestly, she’s an amazing baby,” he said. “It’s been really easy for me and Gigi to kind of just ease into it.”
He also added, “She kind of made it easy for us – she sleeps really well, she loves her milk. It’s just feeding and changing diapers at the moment.”
Prior to the pandemic, both Malik and Hadid were living very busy lives with him on tour as a singer and Hadid travelling as a model. However, the new dad also admitted it’s been a relatively smooth transition into a slower pace of life following the pandemic and becoming a father.
“It’s a really different pace of life, but it’s been really easy to adjust to it, for sure,” he explained. “I think that’s the most surprising thing.”
The meaning of baby Khai’s name
Following the birth of their daughter, the couple kept her name under wraps for a few months, with Hadid subtly revealing her name on Instagram back in January.
Turns out, there’s a special meaning behind baby Khai’s name.
Khai means “crowned”, “the chosen one” or “strong” in some Arabic terms and dialects. The name was also chosen as it pays tribute to her late grandmother, Khairia, on her father Mohamed Hadid’s side of the family, according to TMZ.
Hadid’s father has previously claimed his late mother descended from royalty. “Her great grandfather was the Prince of Nazareth – King of Galilee in the 18th century Daher Al-Omer The Ruler,” he previously said.
Welcoming their new baby girl
Hadid and Malik announced the birth of their first-born via social media back in September.
The new mum took to Instagram to announce the news shortly sharing a sweet photo of her daughter’s hand.

“Our girl joined us earth-side this weekend and she’s already changed our world,” she captioned the photo. “So in love.”
While the new parents have now revealed their baby girl’s name to the world, she’s still keeping her face hidden from the public view to protect her privacy, something which she has done throughout her pregnancy.
