While summer is big on Vitamin D, one part of our body that doesn’t love the sunny season is our hair.

High temperatures can leave our strands feeling dry, frizzy and fragile for months on end and — if you’re anything like us — it’s still impossible to put the hairdryer down.

(After all, we want to look presentable for meetings and after-dark dinners, rather than a humid mess).

However not all heat tools are created equal, and if you’ve had your model for a few years, you might well need an upgrade.

Here, we’ve pulled together a few reasons why you might want to do just that, before the sun truly sets in…

Hairdryers actually have a life span

No, that one you’ve had stashed in your bathroom cabinet for 15 years isn’t actually immortal. Like many electrical items, hair dryers can degenerate over time and with excessive use.

Typical models have a life span of around five years, according to many experts – so if yours is any older than that, you should think about reinvesting.

Dyson’s Supersonic hairdryer is a revolutionary tool that launched in the Middle East just last year, so should be your go-to if you’re after the latest in beauty technology. The gadget also comes with a two-year warrantee on parts and labour, so you can buy with peace of mind.

Old tools might be damaging your hair with excess heat

General wear and tear can leave once-adequate hair dryers no longer able to perfectly regulate temperatures, either scorching your strands or leaving them damp even after 30 minutes of blitzing.

The Supersonic, however, contains a smart motor that constantly monitors the heat output, so your hair is never subjected to more than 150 degrees. (That tiny but powerful motor is also up to eight times faster than those of other hair dryers).

To style your hair while also not adding frizz, Dyson engineer Guanzhong Qiu recommends rough drying your hair to “80 per cent dry before styling it with a hair dryer”.

Your filter is probably working against you by now

Unless you’re one of those people who remember to religiously clean their hairdryer, yours is probably jam-packed with dust and grime. After all, prising the cap off the back of a typical model is just too fiddly – but a hairdryer that doesn’t have a good air flow will be compromised.

The Dyson Supersonic, however, makes it easy to keep on top of your upkeep, with a filter housed in a twist cap between the handle and the cord. You can sweep away lint and general debris within seconds – do it once a week to keep yours in tip-top condition.

Should anything catch in your filter and clog your dryer, the Supersonic will also flash LEDs at you, prompting you to give the device a quick wipe.

The Dyson Supersonic is available at Dyson and Sephora stores, with prices from Dhs1,499. For more information or to shop online, visit shop.dyson.ae.
