Want to take a sneaky peek at First Class? Here’s your chance…

Are you the kind of flyer who pores over the seat map before heading off on a long-haul flight, trying to choose between the bulkhead or the exit row?

Us, too. But the good news is that aspect of travel planning has just gotten easier, if you’re flying with Emirates. The Dubai-based carrier has become the first airline to introduce a virtual reality service that lets you check out your seat of choice in full 3D glory.

The cool new feature is available on both the Emirates website and the app, and shows off the Economy, Business and First Class cabins of the airline’s A380 and Boeing 777 jets.

You can even pop a VR headset on and explore the famous onboard lounge in Business Class, or scope out the First Class shower spa. Every feature is rendered in high-quality detail, from the little complimentary cakes served in the lounge, to the bathrobe hanging on the door of the shower spa.

“We are pleased to be the world’s first airline to introduce this cutting edge web VR technology, which offers our customers an immersive opportunity to learn more about the fantastic Emirates experience before they step on board,” said Alex Knigge, senior vice president of Emirates corporate communications, marketing and brand (digital).

“In our usability tests with customers, we found that they particularly appreciated the 3D seat and cabin models when selecting their seats.”

We can certainly see this coming in handy. Now, the only question remaining is – window, or aisle? Discuss.
