As the year draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on the good, the bad… and the fashionable.

2016 has been a mixed bag of events but one thing’s for certain – the style stars of the Middle East have given us plenty of wardrobe inspiration to take into 2017.

And one royal – whose Instagram account we have bookmarked for such sartorial stimulation – hasn’t failed to disappoint.

HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned is perennially elegant and put-together, a fact that’s made all the more impressive when you remember she’s a hard-working global ambassador for children’s education, as well as a mum of seven.

Here’s what the modest fashion trend-setter dazzled us with over the last 12 months…

Sheikha Mozah

Never before has head-to-toe tweed felt so fresh and so modern. The Qatari royal has managed to add just the right amount of matching accessories without the whole look feeling too Paint By Numbers – and that’s no mean feat.

Now that, friends, is an advanced lesson in seasonal layering. The Sheikha looks so chic and yet so ‘oh, I just threw this on’, which is an extremely hard line to toe.

Proving here that grey is in no way drab, the humanitarian gets bonus points for the inspired flash of hot pink lining. We also seriously need her to put together a 101 in turban tying, because we can rarely pull together anything this artful.

Notice how the Sheikha’s signature is a nipped-in waist? She’s a woman who knows what a world of difference a little tailoring can make (and how navy-on-navy is a real office must).

It takes a special kind of woman to make sheeny mustard-yellow work, but Sheikha Mozah makes it look beyond simple (and trust us, it really isn’t). The clashing corset-styled belt is what makes the whole thing pop even more.

This genuinely looks like it could be a glossy magazine editorial, rather than a meeting with the then-British PM. Seriously, no one does tweed as well as this royal.

The latticed bodice of this colour-blocked gown is particularly eye-catching, and then masterfully played against against the blazer’s contrasting lapel.

We need to add this rosy-printed number to our Ramadan wardrobes, stat.

The Sheikha gracefully demonstrates how to keep the cold-shoulder trend tasteful with a flash of lace.

We always thought ankle-grazing skirts were tricky to pull off, but after compiling this top 12, we’re now motivated to give them a go. The ornately embroidered pussy-bow blouse, on the other hand, we need to give that a go.

With the inky pleated skirt and fan-hugging high neck, this. Is. Divine.

When it comes to Sheikha Mozah’s style hits of 2016, we think this might be the cream of the crop – quite literally. This embellished ivory number feels very Grace Kelly, but yet not retro – just timeless, tasteful and head-turning.
