As Saudi Arabia continues to progress, particularly focusing on equality and women’s rights, a new circular has been distributed banning the use of some terms and words in job advertisements.

Per the Saudi Gazette, it was announced by the Ministry of Commerce that the word “maid” was no longer allowed to be used in job advertisements. Similarly, the word “servant” can also not be used.

The word “maid” needs to be replaced with the phrase “worker or female worker”.

These new regulations also outline that these workers will not bear any financial burdens “under any circumstances” due to any changes in paperwork.

The move by the Ministry is to ensure equality is promoted and that everyone is treated fairly with dignity.
