If not for his flamboyant outfits, we’re talking Dior visor caps and full Gucci suits, but for his incredible talent when it comes to all things hair. Not only is he a Master of Beauty Hair Extensions Specialist, but he’s the king of colour and can re-shape, and re-style just about any tress. Oh and he’s a genius when it comes to a big, bouncy blow-out too.

With his down-to-earth persona and ability to create effortless styles, we can see why Jenna Dewan is up there on his impressive client roster.

Here, we tap the haircare guru for his top tips and tricks:

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GET YOUR HAIR CUT?

It depends on what you are doing with your hair but I recommend my clients to visit the salon for a cut every 6-8 weeks. If they are maintaining a style, growing it out or want to add some length to your hair, then every 10-12 weeks.

WHAT PRODUCTS AND TREATMENTS ARE THE BEST FOR DRY HAIR?

All Soft products are great for fine dry hair and All Soft Mega is amazing for extremely thick or coarse dry hair. Both ranges are by Redken and boast an ultra-rich formula that leaves hair soft and smooth. The product ranges have advanced silkening formulas that contain Redken’s exclusive Interbond Conditioning System and illuminating Silk-Luxe Complex to provide dry hair with intense softness, replenishment and strength. After continued use, hair has increased manageability, movement and luminous shine

WHAT PRODUCTS ARE BEST FOR VOLUME?

I have two go-to ranges. Bain Volumifique is the first thickening effect range by Kérastase for fine and flat hair looking for volume and revitalization. Its Amplifex System formula gives a visible thickening effect to the fiber by restoring it, while boosting hair volume. Kérastase Densifique is a range for thinning hair. Specially formulated to enhance hair’s natural fullness, the shampoo effectively cleanses away impurities while improving the body, texture and strength of fine hair. Its dose of Hyaluronic Acid plumps hair with moisture, while a blend of Gluco-Peptide and Ceramides encourage textured, stronger feeling tresses. After use, the body-building shampoo leaves hair looking fuller and more resilient, while the other products in the range are designed to add body and texture to limp, lifeless hair.

WHAT HAIRCARE TOOLS DO YOU SWEAR BY?

The Beauty Works Professional Styler is the best wand I have ever used in my life. The extra-long ceramic barrel wand creates tons of waves, whether you’re looking for a Hollywood wave that simply oozes retro glamour or that supermodel-approved ‘I woke up like this’ curl, you can style your mane in minutes.

WHAT HAIRDRYER BRAND WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR USE AT HOME?

The GHD AIR hairdryer.  Its super powerful motor has a patented removable air filter that delivers a high pressure air flow which drys hair super fast.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE A HAIR MASK?

Even if you think your hair is relatively healthy, life can be hard on your strands, so it’s good to get in the habit of using a mask weekly to make sure you’re giving your hair the moisture it needs. For those with damaged hair or hair that is breaking then try twice a week.

If you think your hair is especially dry, try sleeping in a hair mask. Simply apply the mask at the end of your shower (or apply it to dry hair), and cover with a shower cap or silk scarf you don’t mind using for this purpose. Rinse out in the morning and you’ll have silky, soft hair.

WHAT ARE THE BEST PRODUCTS FOR SCALP EXFOLIATION?

Kerastase Chronologiste Gommage Exfoliating Pre-Shampoo is the best out there. This exfoliating and purifying scalp and hair treatment is for all hair types. Inspired by skincare, it gently exfoliates and purifies the scalp to help detox before shampooing. It gives a super light-weight end result.

BEST TREATMENT AND PRODUCTS TO COMBAT THE HUMIDITY?

Beauty Works Dream Shine Spray On Humidity Shield is a winner. Spray sparingly across the mid-length and ends of your hair to help seal the cuticles and reduce any frizz.

Another option is the Redken Frizz Dismiss range as it’s the first ever range to offer Frizz Protection Factor (FPF). It’s a great product range because it includes different options for every hair type.

WHAT ARE THE BEST IN-SALON TREATMENTS FOR NOURISHING?

Kerastase Fusio Dose is my personal choice. Fusio-Dose treatments combine a concentre with a booster to personalise the treatment to your unique hair needs depending on the concerns of your hair.

HOW DO YOU KEEP COLOURED HAIR LOOKING VIBRANT?

Redken Color Extend Magnetics is great for nourishing coloured hair and maintaining its vibrancy.

After using the range, I always recommend the Redken Color Extend Vinegar rinse. By using a product like a vinegar rinse, you can bring the pH down to its 5.5 to 6.5, which leaves the hair in a healthier state, so the cuticle lining looks shinier and feels healthier. Using the Redken vinegar rinse just once a week for one month can drastically refresh your hair, as well as keep your colour looking its best.

WHAT ARE YOUR ULTIMATE HAIRCARE TIPS AND TRICKS?

  1. Always use heat protection when using hot hair tools. It is a necessity.
  2. Dry your hair upside down for ultimate volume and never use your nozzle if you are looking for volume.
  3. Always comb through your conditioner with a detangling brush such as the EIDEAL deknot when you are in the shower. Yhis will make your hair much easier to brush, and finally, never use a comb to brush the conditioner through!
