Weekend Vibes

Believe it or not Ramadan will soon be drawing to a close, so this weekend we’ll be catching up with friends over one of the city’s quirkiest Iftars, kicking back at A4 Space, and looking ahead to Eid celebrations…

Thursday

Watching Little Miss Sunshine at A4 Space

Little Miss Sunshine

“You fell in love with a boy? That’s silly.” Wise words there from seven-year-old Olive, our favourite member of the dysfunctional family at the heart of Oscar-winning movie Little Miss Sunshine. A4 Space in Al Quoz is showing the film this weekend as part of its summer screenings in partnership with Cinema Akil. If you’ve never seen it, go. If you have, go anyway –  Abigail Breslin’s dance moves warrant repeat viewing.

A4 Space, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz, 9pm. cinemaakil.com

Friday

Hitting Rule the Roast at Tom & Serg

Tom and Serg

This Ramadan is the second outing for Rule the Roast at Tom & Serg, and it’s proving just as popular as last year, with queues snaking outside the doors daily at sunset. Dhs100 gets you a plate piled high with roast beef, lamb or chicken (or all three), plus plenty of tasty trimmings.

If you can haul yourself up the stairs after you’ve polished that off, you’ll find a mini market with vendors including Audrey’s Cat – a treasure trove of vintage and antique costume jewellery.

From 7pm, Tom & Serg, Al Quoz. Tel: (056) 4746812.

Saturday

Snapping up Self-Portrait dresses

Self Portrait

It’s our new go-to for offbeat occasion wear, and Self-Portrait is available on The Outnet as of this week. We’ll be setting aside an hour this Saturday to browse their instantly recognisable laser-cut dresses and other pieces available from as little as Dhs365.

Planning an Eid brunch

La Residence

La Residence at Raffles Dubai is planning a special night brunch for three nights over Eid, so if you’re yet to sample Chef Frederic Vardon’s French cuisine, it’s the perfect opportunity to get involved. Diners will be served a four course sharing menu at the table, with dishes like duck foie gras and La Residence’s signature dish; macaroni with Old Vintage comte cheese. The brunch is Dhs395 with house drinks and sparkling grape.

La Residence Restaurant and Lounge, Raffles Dubai, Oud Metha. Tel: (04) 3962211. laresidence-dubai.com
