Minimal and delicious
We have been thoroughly impressed by the calibre of fine dining restaurants that have managed to push through these uncertain times, and deliver exceptional menus for us to enjoy at home.
Over the weekend, we decided to test one of the most popular, and Sheikh Hamdan-approved, restaurants in Dubai – Avli by tashas. It celebrates the best of the Greek cuisine with a contemporary twist.
Reminiscent of modern Athenian culture and the open-air courtyards of the Mediterranean, there are four set menus to choose from. All offer a mix of flavours, freshly prepared and neatly delivered to your door.
Of all the takeaways we have tried so far, Avli used the least amount of plastic packaging, which is great for the environment.
As for the dishes, they were simple but packed full of flavour. Presented in two ways, the beetroot salad was vibrant and sat on top of a goats cheese cream.
It’s widely known that chicken is a safe bet, but it takes a lot to make it truly special. Their lemonato baby chicken is flavoursome and exciting, marinated in herbs and lemon, it is served with roasted peppers.
We also received the village sea bass from another menu which again was packed with Mediterranean flavours. It came with roasted potatoes, onion and tomatoes.
To complete the menu, Amira’s sticky orange cake was as refreshing as it was indulging. A zesty twist on a classic sticky toffee pudding, the orange wasn’t overpowering but the toffee caramel was a little difficult to chew.
Overall, we felt like our taste buds were transported to the glorious shores of Greece and were impressed that the food was hot on arrival despite the long drive from DIFC to Palm Jumeirah.
