Haifaa Al Mansour has been selected

The 92nd Academy Awards are only four months away and we are expecting many to be making their Oscar’s bid in the coming weeks.

Saudi Academy Awards Committee have chosen Haifaa Al Mansour‘s The Perfect Candidate as their contender for the international feature film category.

The first female Saudi filmmaker has already made a significant impact with her film that tells a story of a woman who is pursuing a political career in a male-dominant society. It was screened at both Venice and Toronto film festivals this year.

The Perfect Candidate has been supported by the Saudi Film Council, which was established in 2018, and stars Mila Al Zahrani, Nora Al Awadh and Dae Al Hilali. It has been co-produced by Al Mansour Productions in Saudi Arabia and Berlin’s Gerhard Meixner and Roman Paul of Razor Film Produktion.

Haifaa Al Mansour is known for her film Wadjda which was the first feature-length film to be shot in the Kingdom. It also made history by being the first film submitted for the Academy Awards before the ban was lifted.

The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 9, 2020 and we have our fingers crossed that The Perfect Candidate makes the nominations list.
