It’s just been announced that New Year’s Day, which is a paid public holiday across the UAE, will not mean a day off for most people.
Why? Well, January 1 falls on a Friday in 2016, and Emirates News Agency has confirmed that the day off will not be transferred to the Thursday or Sunday. This means that people with a standard Friday and Saturday weekend won’t get an extra day off to ring in 2016.
