A big one for the UAE
2020 is fast approaching, and it is set to be a big year for the United Arab Emirates. Following this year being the Year of Tolerance, leaders announced that 2020 will be the year of preparation for the country’s next 50 years.
This coming decade will mark a milestone for the Emirates, which will celebrate its 50th National Day in 2021. In preparation of what will surely be a historic moment, the Gulf state announced that next year will be branded “2020: Towards the next 50”. Looking to the future, 2020 and beyond will “involve all segments of the UAE society in shaping life in the UAE for the next 50 years and preparing for the country’s Golden Jubilee celebrations of 2021” according to a statement from Dubai Media Office.

Sheikh Mohammed’s tweet was accompanied by a video that highlighted the country’s advancements in the last 48 years. Not only that, but it also included glimpses of future projects and technologies that the UAE sets to accomplish in the next five decades.
Moreover, Dubai’s Ruler commissioned the creation of two new committees to be in charge of putting forward the country’s 2020 vision and prepare for what will surely be a show-stopping Golden Jubilee celebrations. The first committee will be chaired by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister. Meanwhile, the second committee, which will be in charge of organising mass celebrations across the UAE will be lead by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
