When it comes to auctioning any exquisite horological timepieces, Patek Philippe is an old-timer in this sphere.
Depicting the Lavaux terraced vineyards on the shores of Lake Geneva, the ultra-rare 5521R-012 model in 18K Rose Gold was sold at more than the expected price at Christie’s auction on Thursday, June 9, 2022.
At this major bid entitled ‘Important watches of exceptional provenance’, several 1-68 of The Kairos Collection part III were on display, including Patek Philippe’s intricate wristwatch that sold for $2.2 million.
Per Forbes, this watch retailed for $561,341 back in 2017, when the first version, 5531R was initially released. This luxe wristwatch made a debut at the New York Patek Philippe Art of Watches Grand Exhibition, to celebrate the brand’s legacy and relationship with the USA.
With two standout features, the minute repeater and the world time function, this innovative timepiece, made a long-lasting impression at the exhibition. With only 10 in production, five depicted New York during the day and five displayed it at night, the quantity produced, made it even more unique.
Designed to indicate home time even when owners are located at the other end of the world, this high-quality produce was adorned with a cloisonné enamel motif that highlights the brand’s President, Thierry Stern’s vision from every angle.

Curated by a private distinguished collector, another piece sold at the bid for more than $1 million was the extremely exclusive red dot wristwatch that comes with a striking leap year calendar, moon phases, and bracelet strap. This 3448G watch, made a comeback after its production around the 1980s.
As a leader in the making of complex watches, it’s not every day that the world of horology experiences a million-dollar purchase.
