Bare brick walls, black and red leather chairs, wooden floors, exposed ceilings and full-length windows – West 14th completely evokes the feeling of a NYC loft apartment, albeit one with a long sleek, and fully-equipped bar.
Attracting sun worshippers, drinkers and diners alike, the vast venue is split into a stylish indoor restaurant and an outdoor terrace, which affords mesmerising views of the now, iconic Dubai skyline.
FOOD
As a steakhouse and grill the emphasis is on the meat dishes, which truly satisfy even the fussiest carnivore. Aside from the wagyu steaks (every great steak house’s sign of quality), spare ribs and surf & turf, the bun-less burger is an unusual but winning option. Despite the absence of the bread (instead it’s smothered in delicious creamy cheese and sits on a bed of steak fries) it’s one of the biggest patties you’ll ever consume, so think wisely about the waistband when ordering the sides – the city fries and root vegetables are firm favourites.
Every palate is catered for here with pescetarians and vegetarians also spoiled for choice. The veggies are home grown making dishes such as celeriac and mushroom lasagne or the chickpea cakes with crispy tofu and spicy creamed peas more succulent. While for those who eat fish try the sea bass with olive tapenade and anti-boise sauce or the grilled royal hammour with fennel and orange salad.
Of course, New York doesn’t mess around when it comes to sweet treats, as such this is where West 14th further excels. For an authentic taste of the Big Apple the white chocolate cheesecake is a mammoth yet lip-smackingly good choice.
When it comes to drinks, cocktails are the order of the day, while wine prices are some of the most reasonable in the region.
