The Lowdown
Anyone else notice that their hair grows at a rate of knots out here? Great if, like me, your life goals involve making your hair as long as a Leonard Cohen song. On the other hand, not so wonderful for your roots. It’s always a slightly traumatic experience trying a new colourist – only because you’re placing such unadulterated trust in them to do as they will with your locks. Anything could happen. Anything. It’s enough to get your pulse up.
Anyway, off I went to The Loft Fifth Avenue in The Dubai Mall one Friday morning, certain that I was going to be in good hands. Happily, I was right – cue much smug, post-salon Instagramming.
Results
My hair stylist explained how blondes have to be extremely careful with what colour they choose when they live in a country of constant sunshine; the sun’s rays having the ability to turn our highlights more canary than caramel. Never a good look, and not one I’ve had to suffer since the darkest days of my final year at University when I decided slathering my hair with Sun-In and popping down the Sunbed shop was the quickest route to looking like a Cali beach goddess.
Luckily, my colourist’s expertise saved me from such ignominy, giving me a super-natural, flattering blonde shade that I’m happy to report has remained as such, despite many a beach day since then.
