Counting Beyoncé, Kate Moss and Elle Macpherson as fans, American designer and former model, Melissa Odabash is an expert in beach chic.

So who better to talk swimwear, beach bag essentials and poolside faux pas with, than the bikini queen herself.

Do you have a personal favourite piece from the new collection?

I love the Paris bikini, as it’s super flattering.

My new collection is inspired by the sixties and will definitely have all heads turning on the beach

Do you have a signature beach look?

Yes, I love a crochet dress over any swimsuit. I’ll team it with a thick belt, gladiator-style sandals and maybe a chunky cuff.

What are your beach beauty essentials?

Before I hit the beach, I’ll prep with faux tan to get a glow.

An hour before I go in the sun, I’ll pile on sunblock by Jason (A US organic brand), followed by a rich lipbalm, hair oil and Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer.

How do you prepare for swimsuit season?

I try to go on a strict alkaline diet and run three times a week. I’ll also get a massage and drink lots of water to hydrate and help banish cellulite.

What’s in your beach bag?

My Smythson notebook, Argan oil for my hair, a bottle of water, my kindleiPhone, magazines and sunblock.

What are the worst things to wear on the beach?

High heels, there is nothing worse than seeing women trying to walk through sand in stilettos; it makes no sense to me!

Also, saggy bikini bottoms – it’s not a great look when the fabric hangs as you get out of the water.
