Beauty Editor grabs three minutes with star stylist Bruno Weppe on her recent trip to Paris. My journey …
In 1980, I started working with Jean-Louis David, the best salon in Paris. One day, Jean-Louis David came to me and said: “I’m going to take you to a designer, to show you how to sell a haircut.” The designer was Jean Paul Gaultier.
Defining moments of my career …
In 1985, I landed the Jean Paul Gaultier show by proposing a Josephine Baker-style hairdo. From that show, American Vogue started calling. At the Cannes film festival, stars like Lauren Bacall, Faye Dunaway and Jodie Foster came by my mini-styling station. I got goose bumps when brushing Lauren Bacall’s hair. In 1985, I worked alongside fashion photographers like Guy Bourdin, Peter Lindbergh and Helmut Newton.
My style …
I was rebellious and stood out in Paris in my silver flares, green monkey-fur coat and Courrèges glasses with the windscreen wipers – you can imagine!
What people should know about hair …
Getting tresses into great shape is like building a house; it’s all about the foundations. The base and the products are what create the magic. Hair in magazine editorials takes at least two hours of prep.
My focus today …
… is to inspire and educate budding hairdressers at my school, Bruno Weppe: The Art Of Studio.
