Khadija Omar, the first hijabi Miss World, has officially made it to the top 40 in the competition.
Competing for her home country of Somalia, the beauty pageant made fast track announcements due to the pandemic confirming the top 15 winners, along with 25 judges’ choices, for these participants to compete in the final.
Sharing pride for her milestone moment, Khadija admitted she didn’t have the words to describe what she was feeling upon the announcement she was in the 40.
“Words cannot express how proud I am of the milestones we’ve crossed this year and last,” she said on Instagram. “Somalia has made so much history and continues to do so.
“Making the top 40 has shown me just how much hard work really pays off and how dreams really do come true. To everyone who supported me through this journey, I will forever be grateful. To my country and my team, thank you for giving me this opportunity, I will do my best to continue making you proud.”
Other participants who made it to the top 40 list included, Sri Lanka, China, Iceland and other talented individuals, who stunned the judges with their confidence and miss world attributes.

As the first-ever Miss World Somalia in 2021, Khadija is consistently inspiring the women in her country and empowering them through her powerful strides.
Her background extends beyond her modelling career, as she is also a professional makeup artist and psychology student, making her country proud in every aspect.
After growing up in a refugee camp in Nairobi, Khadija has always been grateful for living in a safe environment and having access to several opportunities, hence, she is a strong believer in giving back to the community through various United Nations initiatives.
The finals of the beauty pageant will take place in Puerto Rico, at the Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot on March 16, 2022.
