In the flurry of text messages you received over the weekend, there may have been one from HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

To mark the start of the Holy Month, His Highness took the opportunity to wish all UAE citizens and residents a blessed Ramadan, whilst also addressing the current pandemic.

In addition, Sheikh Mohamed also shared “heartfelt greetings” from HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.

The text message in full read:

Dear fellow citizens and residents,
Please allow me to share heartfelt greetings from my brother Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, President of the UAE, as we celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan. I remain grateful for your patience, resilience and kindness in these unprecedented times.
Together we can ensure the safety of our cherished families, friends and communities by continuing to practice the necessary precautionary measures. As one, I know we will overcome this pandemic together.
May God bless you and your families. Ramadan Kareem.

As per His Highness’ message, this Ramadan residents are being encouraged to continue practicing social distancing. While many movement restrictions have been lifted, no large gatherings are allowed to take place.

No more than five people are permitted at gatherings and and Ramadan tents and Majilises are “strictly prohibited”.
