A marriage made in heaven if ever we saw one, feel good shoe designer Sophia Webster has collaborated with Barbie on a collection of six adult and three kids shoes. Our inner five year old has never been happier.
Since launching her brand in 2013, It-Brit shoe designer Sophia Webster has proceeded to take over the world, one pink, glittery, pompom-bedecked shoe at a time. Her whimsical collections have charmed us all with their inimitable spirit – fun, happy heels that beg to be taken out and spun round the dancefloor. In fact, her shoes have always featured a Barbie-inspired playfulness, so it was only a matter of time before a collaboration between the two came to fruition.
Stocked exclusively in the UAE at Level Shoe District and landing this week, the collection comprises two pairs of sneakers, one flat sandal and three heels, each infused with a supreme level of kitsch. Last but certainly not least, an actual Sophia Webster Barbie is also available.
It all comes as part of a celebration of Barbie wearing flat shoes for the very first time, thanks to a new articulated ankle feature – obviously looking after her feet in her old age. “Creating a shoe collection for Barbie has always been my dream project, but getting to be a part of her embracing flats for the first time made it extra exciting, and deeply personal,” Sophia says. “I love that this concept strikes a balance between dreams and reality – the idea of getting Barbie in some high-tops and setting her loose in East London instantly appealed.” Babs in some hipster trainers? We’d love to see that.
