Routine breakdown

There is nothing we like more than taking a peek inside someone else’s beauty shelf and the next person to share with us her ultimate beauty favourites is Creative Director of Kate Spade, Nicola Glass.

What does you morning beauty routine like?

I start by cleaning my skin with Bioderma Sensibio H20 makeup remover as sometimes I still have eyeliner smudged from the day before. Then I swear by the Dermalogica Microfoliant Face Wash, it goes into a really soft foam and keeps my skin super clean.

I prefer a very natural look so I keep my make-up fresh and clean. The thing I highlight most is my eyes; I feel a bit naked if I’m not wearing black eyeliner. I don’t really wash my hair that often – I go about four days without washing it and my hair feels so much better for it.  I use a little Oribe Gold Lust Hair Oil every day.

Which brands are you a fan of and why?

In terms of skincare moisturiser is key – I rotate between Crème de La Mer and Augustinus Bader. For face coverage, sometime, I’ll just use an RMS concealer and if I want a little more coverage, Giorgio Armani’s Face Fabric is a super light foundation. I remember when Kim Kardashian called them out on Twitter for discontinuing it, and then they brought it back again. The power of social media.  Meanwhile, I still have some of the original stockpiled in my fridge.

If you had to choose 3 beauty products which would they be and why?

Chanel Stylo Yeux waterproof eyeliner, Armani foundation and Vintner’s Daughter face oil.

Do you have a signature scent?

I alternate between two different fragrances depending on my mood. Goop Edition 2 because I love the woody, masculine scent. The Shiso leaf brings in an earthy element which I find it to be very calming and balancing. Marinis by Santa Eulalia fragrance is inspired by the sea and it instantly brings a sense of tranquility.  Surfing is one of my favourite activities and it immediately grounds me and invigorates me for the next challenge

What does your pre-bedtime nightly ritual look like?

I have now been self- isolating with my family for almost 7 weeks and during the week, after a day full of work zoom meetings, I’ve been appreciating having time with my family in the evening, playing board games or listening to music. I usually have a shower before I go to bed and then we all pile into one big bed – my son calls it a “pack sleep” – me, my husband, our 8 year-old son and our Labrador puppy Red!

Beauty wise I keep it simple, some moisturiser and a spray of Kiehl’s Cactus Flower & Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist.  It helps me relax.

What has been the best makeup tip you’ve picked up along the way?

When it comes to makeup, less is more and focus on skincare in general.

And skincare?

Every 6 months I get microdermabrasion, it’s something I’ve been keeping up with for several years and I love the results. It’s a great way to give your skin a reset and remove dead skin cells.

Who is your ultimate beauty muse?

I don’t have one in particular, but I always admire women who are comfortable in their own skin allowing their personality to shine through. I love the actresses Cate Blanchett and Helen Mirren.

For more experimental hair and make-up, actress Lucy Boynton is amazing.  I love how she just has fun and experiments with her look. She also embraces a bold eyeliner which is something I can relate to.

What role does makeup play in your runway shows?

Beauty plays a huge role in our runway shows – it really brings the whole vision of the season together. In our most recent NYFW show, for Spring 2020, we looked to enhance the natural beauty of each model in a unique way. We didn’t have a pre-set beauty look, but instead wanted to bring out the natural features of each model and highlight the overall look. The nail colour was different for each model to highlight a specific hue in what they were wearing and the hair styling was different model to model. I really loved how we customised it, while at the same time making it feel really natural.

What’s on your beauty wish list?

A new Hermes lipstick – the multi coloured packaging is so beautiful.
