Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned – this William Congreve’s quote was tailor-made for Sobhita Dhulipala’s character in Made In Heaven.

Sobhita plays wedding planner Tara Khanna on Amazon Prime’s popular show Made In Heaven. Last week, the second season of the iconic series dropped after a gap of four years. When season one came out in 2019, Sobhita became a household name for her silent prowess and her indomitable sartorial sense.

Her character climbs the highest level of snobbish society of South Delhi, once she marries the industrialist Adil Khanna. Her ambitions, as tall as heels, make their way into the messy world of the rich, where she now struggles between who she was and who she has become. The biggest change in her trajectory can be seen through the change in her wardrobe – from a West Delhi simpleton with waist-length hair to the Raw Mango-wearing wife of the sole heir of Khanna Industries.

In season 2, however, Sobhita’s closet projects a change in her power dynamic. As a new divorcee, she is back to being a social outcast but with a job that will always pull her into the big leagues. She may no longer be able to buy a Tarun Tahiliani on a whim, but she can always loan a Sabyasachi sari from the man himself, who happens to be on her speed dial.

The series in the new season focuses on the contrasting episodes of her life and she perfectly dresses up for the part. On one hand, she is making her court run for the divorce settlements in crisp AM PM kurta sets and then on the flip side, she is back to organising the splashy weddings with dark underbellies, all while clutching her pearls in pure silk saris. The cumbersome weight of her borrowed class by marriage doesn’t allow her to let her guard down. Always perfectly pinned, sharply dressed, ready to fight or flight in style.

In one particular scene, Tara quickly quips at her now-boyfriend, who thinks she dressed up for him and his friends, “I dress up for myself, your friends are incidental,” she interjects, explaining every women’s heartfelt agony.

With the wedding season soon approaching, it’s important to look beyond flashy trends and take the classic Tara Khanna approach towards Indian wear. Think handwoven textiles, heirloom jewellery and jewel tones. In terms of brands, she wears a hand-picked selection of both new and old designers on the block. From the powder pink Torani sari to the sequinned Manish Malhotra six yards — the beauty in her wardrobe lies in the skillful balance.

Whether you’re planning to get married or just show up as the rich single cousin this season, take a leaflet out of Sobhita’s style file before building your wedding wardrobe. To make this process further seamless, here are our top traditional picks that you can buy.
