Six months after launching her eponymous jewellery brand, Sana Al Maktoum Fine Jewellery, Her Highness Sheikha Sana Al Maktoum hosted her very first major event to unveil the line exclusively to invite-only local and international media representatives.
Taking place at the Sheikha Hessa Bint Khalifa Palace, Her Highness gave an insight into the inspiration behind her first collection ‘My Treasure’, which is an ode to her late grandmother whom she is named after, elder Sheikha Sanaa.
At the core of her collection, as well as being a tribute to her grandmother, Her Highness wants to empower women to find their inner strength through one treasured piece of jewellery at a time.
Her Highness’ first collection features 13 pieces, incorporating pavé-set diamonds alongside pink, yellow or blue sapphires in yellow, white or rose gold encasings, all featuring butterflies.
With butterflies being the muse for her debut collection, Sheikha Sana explained the meaning behind them.

“My late grandmother was herself an avid jewellery collector and always so supportive of my creativity. To this day I feel her presence always fluttering around me,” she said. “I consider her my ‘guardian butterfly’.”
She also added, “A butterfly is ever-transforming, and as a jewellery designer, and as a woman, I feel I too am very much evolving”.
Not only does Her Highness hope to empower women with her designs, but Sana Al Maktoum Fine Jewellery also hopes to create change through various charity partnerships to help women and children.
“It’s important to me that my jewellery is not just beautiful, but empowering to women of all backgrounds,” she says.
Emirates Woman had the honour of exclusively interviewing Her Highness last year in November, where she first shared the story behind her jewellery brand and how inspirational her grandmother has been in her life.
“I decided to launch a jewellery line because growing up I saw my grandmother, who I was named after, take meetings at all times of the day in order to manage her businesses and I remember seeing the spark in her eye as she tackled one challenging business decision after another,” she told EW. “I was in awe of her strength and independence and I wanted to challenge myself to find my strength and to channel it towards my passion – jewellery.”
Throughout her younger years, Her Highness was in awe of her grandmother, Sheikha Sana Al Maktoum, not only for her grit in carving her own path, working hard, but also for being an avid jewellery collector.
The Sana Al Maktoum Fine Jewellery founder went on to develop a clear passion for jewellery – collecting vintage jewellery books through the years, which she would look through for hours. This led her to go on to study at the Gemological Institute.
While the Sana Al Maktoum Fine Jewellery brand is only six-months-old, it’s clear that with Her Highness’ vision and passion to create change, along with her impeccable designs will see her create a long-lasting, timeless brand loved by all.
