His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered for the UAE to dispatch emergency aid to Lebanon.
A 747 jumbo departed with around 30 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies on board, confirmed the International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Dubai.
“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, ordered the aid to be sent immediately on his personal aircraft in response to the devastating blast which rocked Beirut yesterday,” said Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Supervision of IHC.

The catastrophic blast in the Lebanese capital has killed at least 135 people and left around 4,000 people injured. According to Governor of Beirut, 300,000 people have been left homeless and that up to 85 per cent of grain stocks in Lebanon have been destroyed.
Videos and images have been circulating social media channels showing doctors and nurses working under extreme circumstances as hospital overflow with the injured, with one striking image showing the medical staff working under mobile phone torch lights.

“Within the coming hours, with generous and rapid support from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, WHO’s logistics hub located within the IHC in Dubai, will deploy critically needed and life-saving supplies to health care facilities in Beirut,” said Robert Blanchard from WHO’s logistics hub in Dubai.
