As schools prepare to reopen for the next academic year later on this month, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Dubai Executive Council met with Dubai’s school regulator to oversee the precautionary measures that are being put in place and expressed his confidence in the steps being taken.

Majority of students are set to return to the classroom on August 30 with the schools following strict safety measures.

“We have learned so many important lessons about the experience of remote learning during the last academic year,” he said on Twitter after visiting the offices of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

“During the next phase, we will keep on finding more solutions for school and university education in Dubai in a bid to make it easier for pupils and teachers while continuing in developing the education sector to improve its quality.”

Students who are returning to the classroom should expect face masks worn throughout, thermal screening at entrances, with seating 1.5 metres apart.

School can determine the class sizes or hold lessons in gymnasiums or outdoor areas. Parents can also choose to continue with distance learning.

“While face-to-face learning remains the preferred education model, we understand that different parents have different views, especially in the first phases of re-opening. As a temporary measure, schools can and should provide 100 per cent distance learning provision in the new academic year to parents who request it,” reads the statement from KHDA.
