His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has recreated an iconic photo of his late grandfather.

The Crown Prince of Dubai took to Twitter to share a side-by-side photo of himself and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum at the Dubai Al Fahidid Fort.

It’s part of a new rehabilitation project which he is spearheading under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, to preserve and promote the heritage of Al Fahidi Fort as a cultural landmark.

“We aim to realise the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum’s vision to establish the historical fort as a cultural landmark,” Sheikh Hamdan said.

Al Fahidi Fort witnessed key phases of Dubai’s transformation over the past 200 years and carries special significance to the city’s history. Preserving the cultural heritage of the emirate is an integral part of our approach, as it represents values that we strongly cherish.”

The fort was built back in 1787 and was where the emirate’s leader’s headquarters was based.

Back in 1971, under the directives of Sheikh Rashid, the landmark was restored. Now, the landmark is set to be temporarily closed in order to undergo a facelift to preserve its heritage.

It’s part of a wider plan to protect and rehabilitate many historical landmarks across Dubai.

“We have a duty towards our future generations to rehabilitate iconic landmarks,” His Highness added.
