While Arab Fashion Week went fully digital this year, that didn’t stop major statements being made.

One of the strongest of all was from regional fashion brand SemSem.

The closing virtual show was shot at the founder and designer Abeer Al-Otaiba’s US residence and paid tribute to the strength of women – a message the designer is hoping to portray with her Spring 2021 collection.

Emerald colours, glamorous gowns, pleated dresses, bold and feminine cuts all make up SemSem’s latest collection.

“SemSem’s Spring 2021 collection is a statement on women’s strength, illustrated through engineered lines and geometry,” Al-Otaiba said. “For spring, the brand focused on couture plissé techniques and graphic pyramid-inspired silhouettes.”

Discussing the symbol of her collection, she “felt called to focus on the unwavering strength of women”.

“Given what is currently going on in the world, women are juggling it all – we’re teachers, cooks, caregivers and more,” she added. “The challenges this year has presented reminds me women are resilient and should feel beautiful in all of the different hats we wear.”
