Other-worldly. Dramatic. Out-of-the-ordinary. After two years of physical shows on hold, Schiaparelli kicked off Paris Haute Couture with a sensational show.

For the house’s SS22 Haute Couture collection entitled ‘An Age of Discipline’, creative director Daniel Roseberry paid homage to the iconic archives of the House of Schiaparelli, known for its eccentric and surreal designs.

But also at the forefront of the show, as was noted by Roseberry, he asked: “What does fashion mean, what does fashion have to say, in an era in which everything is in flux? What does surrealism mean when reality itself has been redefined?”

Embodying a white, black and gold motif, the collection featured sculptural elements and orbital components whilst being presented at the Petit Palais in Paris.

In this collection, as explained by Roseberry, after the world has been turned on its head for the last couple of years, he decided to explore exactly why he loves to design.

“There are designers who design because they love clothes. There are designers who make clothes because they love the craft, because they love people,” he said. “There are designers whose work is indebted to fashion as a concept, or to glamour as a business.

“But I design in order to make people feel something. When clothes and craft and hair and music and the wearer are in harmony together, when they are all trying to communicate something, we can be reminded why we love fashion— why I love fashion.”
