Prada’s Galleria handbag has been around since 2007 – an era, when the star of this campaign, Scarlett Johansson was also beginning to make a mark as a movie star.

Today, both these icons come together in a befitting campaign, celebrating the eternal allure of what’s classic. In a kaleidoscope of colour expressed by Venezuelan-American artist Alex Da Corte, this campaign shows the two-time Academy Award nominee in her essence. She is herself a reflection, a refraction – interpreting and embodying another individual, bringing her own inherent qualities to her depiction.

Further amplifying the ongoing association between Prada and artists of substance, the series portrays the Tony Award-winning actor in a conceptually new light. Da Corte’s works span a range of media – video, performance, installation, painting, and sculpture – and this is his first work living in a fashion context.

Inspired by Pop Art and Surrealism, the artist accurately infuses elements from these moments in a high-fashion way. His work creates fantastical, vividly-hued and all-encompassing artistic environs to explore the same notions of humanity Johansson brings to her work.

Just like how the Hollywood icon is transformed and recontextualized through colour in the campaign. The actual Prada Galleria has been given a similar treatment – its silhouette has been explored as a canvas for different shades and patterns.

Over the years, the Prada Galleria handbag has been reinvented multiple times – it is sleek, stylish yet highly pragmatic. Constantly shifting between form and function, it is reflective of Prada’s craftsmanship and modern design ethos. The Galleria handbag has become a hallmark of Prada’s 21st-century identity.

Future heritage, an heirloom in the making, the bag is titled after the home of Prada’shistoric flagship in Milan – the storied Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, housing the boutique where the Prada brand was founded by Mario Prada, Miuccia Prada’s grandfather, in 1913.

Take a look at all the latest variations of the iconic handbag.
