As a glimmer of normality returns to Dubai, gyms are slowly but surely starting to reopen.

Popular boutique fitness studio Crank opened its doors on Sunday after 11 weeks of being closed, offering home workouts throughout lockdown.

Of course, the gym is following guidelines from the government – operating at 50 per cent capacity, ensuring there’s regular sterilisation and more.

However, Crank has taken it one step further with a savvy way to ensure safe exercise takes place during spin classes. Enter Perspex partitions.

In a series of posts to their official Instagram page, the fitness studio showed off its genius idea to install the partitions explaining the gym has taken “an extra step to ensure you all feel comfortable and safe at the studio by installing separation dividers between every bike”.⁣

A trainer at the boutique studio, Nuno Costa, told The National implementing the partitions was “the most logical thing to do”.

“The response from our clients has been very, very positive,” he told the publication. “We often receive messages on our social media, emails and even face to face people saying how safe they feel about having the partitions in the studio, and for us, it’s been great be the first ones to have them.”

And no to worry, all bikes in studios are kept apart at social distancing lengths of two metres, and are heavily sterilised between uses. Additionally, shoes are swapped out so no pair is used twice in a row for classes.

Dare we say it – it’s probably time to get back to the gym.
