In a surprising turn of events, Lee Alexander McQueen’s protégé, Sarah Burton, who upheld the legacy of his brand after his untimely passing in 2010, is now parting ways.

The curtains on successful association will fall at the forthcoming Paris Fashion Week in September ’24, where we will witness the grand finale of an era that commenced when the gifted designer took the reins as Creative Director in May 2010.

“We would like to express our immense gratitude to Sarah for writing such an important chapter in the history of the Alexander McQueen House. Sarah’s contribution over the past 26 years will leave an indelible mark,” said, Gianfilippo Testa, CEO of Alexander McQueen.

This transition followed her extensive 14-year collaboration with the late Lee Alexander McQueen, an icon in the fashion world. Since assuming her role, the talented designer has consistently wowed fashion enthusiasts with her innovative collections, earning her well-deserved recognition as an acclaimed trendsetter. During her remarkable 13-year tenure, her creative genius propelled the British fashion House to unprecedented heights.

Sarah Burton on her iconic journey at the design house: “I am so proud of everything I’ve done and of my incredible team at Alexander McQueen. They are my family, and this has been my home for the past 26 years. I want to thank Francois-Henri Pinault for believing in me and offering me this amazing opportunity. Above all, I want to thank Lee Alexander McQueen. He taught me so much and I am eternally grateful to him. I am looking forward to the future and my next chapter and will always carry this treasured time with me.”

As we bid adieu to this extraordinary partnership, the fashion world eagerly awaits the unveiling of the new creative director, who will carry forward the legacy while bringing in an avant-garde perspective.
