Designer Alexander Wang has made a model of British singer Sam Smith, making him the face of the new Balenciaga ad campaign. The 22-year-old star has made his first foray into the fashion world – that’s if you don’t count front row appearances (he was also spotted backstage at Burberry fashion show in February) – by starring in a new teaser to promote the French fashion house’s new season collection.
As with all breaking news these days, Sam Smith revealed he was collaborating with Balenciaga by sharing images from the brooding black and white shoot on his Instagram. He also shared a short teaser video from the campaign.
The I’m Not The Only One singer is the face of the menswear autumn/winter 2015 campaign – Kate Moss and Lara Stone are the faces for the women’s ad – which was photographed by Josh Olins.
In the advert Sam shows off his new svelte figure – he has lost over 14lbs, largely thanks to days thanks to Amelia Freer’s nutrition book, Eat. Nourish. Glow. – in tailored jackets and trousers, pairing them with crisp white shirts from Alexander Wang’s latest line.
The singer said of his new modelling role: “So honoured and ecstatic to announce my collaboration with @BALENCIAGA on the upcoming autumn/winter menswear collection! You’ll be able to see my full campaign very soon. So happy.”
Alexander Wang said of the ‘creative collaboration’: “Balenciaga men’s had never worked with an iconic star before for its campaigns, so this is also a first for the house. He brings musicality and emotion to Balenciaga through his style, in every subtle gesture.”
Rather contrastingly, Sam Smith also recently found himself the unofficial face for another campaign… one to mark the importance of sunscreen after sharing a very painful looking image of himself with awful sunburn. Looks like some one didn’t read our guide to best SPFs…
