The celebrations continue

Last month, UAE residents were surprised when news broke out that three of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid, Ruler of Dubai’s sons have officially tied the knot. The Crown Prince of Dubai, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and his two brothers HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum all got married in an Islamic ceremony on May 15.

The news of their engagement first broke out last year, so who are they married too? Sheikh Hamdan is married to his cousin Shaikha Shaikha Bint Saeed Bin Thani Al Maktoum, while Sheikh Maktoum is wed to Shaikha Maryam Bint Butti Al Maktoum, and Sheikh Ahmed is married to Shaikha Midya Bint Dalmouj Al Maktoum. Even though their wedding took place in Ramadan, the first ceremony took place during Eid on June 6.

As per tradition, the groom and bride hold separate receptions where the male and female guests are segregated. Therefore, the reception for the Royal brothers was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the region’s largest events venue. It was attended by Rulers of all Emirates, Crown Princes, Sheikhs, ministers, and a large number of dignitaries. Also in attendance were state and senior officials, tribal chieftains, businessmen, entrepreneurs and heads of top international and Arab companies operating in the UAE.

However, the wedding for the brides of the royal princes was held a week later. On Friday, June 14, the women celebrated in a ceremony held in South Dubai. It was a star-studded event, as it was attended by several well-known figures from the Arab world, including Saudi TV presenter Lojain Omran and Emirati singer Ahlam Al Shamsi. The television personality was the MC at the event, and donned several dresses by Lebanese designer Charbel Karam.

Meanwhile, the UAE singer, Ahlam entertained the guests in at the ceremony by performing some of her biggest hits. She later took to Instagram to share pictures from the night, and show off her stunning Zuhair Murad gown. She wrote: Congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai and Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum for the wedding of their sons: HH Sheikh Hamdan, Crown Prince of Dubai and HH Sheikh Ahmed and HH Sheikh Maktoum. I am honoured to be the Arab artist asked to preform at this great ceremony. I consider it a badge of honour.”

However, Ahlam wasn’t the only source of entertainment for the night. Another performer who took the stage at the wedding is highly successful Iraqi singer, Majid al-Muhandis. In honour of the Royal Wedding, the 47-year-old singer released a song titled “Ahla Al-Bashayer.” The lyrics were written by Emirati poet Jamouh, celebrating the happiness and joy that the UAE citizens have experienced celebrating this occasion, under the title of the joy of a homeland. We can only assume that this was one of the songs that Majid sung at the event.
