We are halfway through Ramadan, and by now people have chosen which TV dramas to watch. With all of the live tweeting and the memes, it is not hard to know which shows have captivated audiences across the region this Holy Month.

Here are the most talked about Ramadan series of 2019:

Dina El-Sherbiny is probably this Ramadan’s stand-out star, thanks to her incredible performance as Nour in Zay El Shams. The actress plays the role of a lawyer who’s older sister, Farida is killed early on. As she looks for her murderer, fingers start to point to some of her closest friends. The series features a star-studded cast, including: Ahmed Salah Al-Saadany, Riham Abdul Ghafour, Ahmed Dawood, Sawsan Badr, Omar El Saeed, Mariam El-Khosht and young talent Ahmed Malek.

Cyrine Abdel Nour returned this Ramadan, stunning audiences with her performance and beauty. She portrays Nour, the female lead of the third season of Al-Haeba. We watch as her character falls in love with Jabal, played by Taim Hassan for the third consecutive year. In the previous two seasons fans watched Jabal as he fell in love with Nadine Njeim and Nicole Saba in season one and two respectively.

It comes as no surprise that Mohamed Ramadan is dominating Ramadan ratings, as he have done every year now. In this new series, he plays the role of of both the father and son. The event of the series will take place in 1992, when a devastating earthquake struck Egypt. This show will mark the return of Hala Shiha, who is returning back to acting after a long hiatus of 12 years. Other actors involved in the project include Maged el-Masry, Ahmed Seyam, Nesrine Amin, and Yusuf Osman, among others.

The Lebanese beauty returned this year with a new romance series to send our hearts aflutter. The series tells the unusual story of two lovers, in which a woman tries to tame her partner, who craves money and suffers from hatred and power struggles. Khamsa W Nos stars the beauty Nadine alongside Syrian actor Qusai Khauli and Motasem Al Nahar.

Dofaat Al-Qahera – Bashar Al Shatti

It wouldn’t be Ramadan, without a period drama, and this Kuwaiti series didn’t disappoint. A new high for Khaleeji dramas, Dofaat Al-Qahera follows the experiences of the first group of Kuwaiti students studying in Egypt in 1956 and the story of their different journeys. The cast includes: Bashar Al Shatti, Fatma El Saffi, Maram Al Balushi, Nour Al-Sheikh and more.

Available on Netflix this Ramadan, Syrian actor Basel Khayat, plays the role of a best-selling crime novelist who becomes the prime suspect when his real life begins to imitate the plot of his books. Appearing alongside him is Lebanese actress Daniella Rahme, the two starred together last Ramadan in hit-series Tango.

Hekayti – Yasmin Sabri

The Egyptian beauty returned this year in Hekayti, her first lead role in a television drama. She plays the role of Dalida, who is traumatised as a child as a result of witnessing her father’s death. The show is a romantic drama, with heartthrob Ahmed Hatem will star alongside Yasmin.
