An Australian mother of two is the brains behind an incredible new initiative that allows us to give to those less fortunate than us, throughout the month of Ramadan.
Sumayyah Sayed, came up with the idea of the Ramadan fridge for blue-collar workers, stocking one with water and snacks for Iftar. Proving such a success she started a Facebook group with more than 8,000 members and has new set up over 20 fridges across Dubai.
Members of the campaign’s Facebook group have been donating food and drinks fruit to home-cooked meals to grateful workers, with some donors even using the electricity from their own homes to power the fridges. However, with the community vibe strong during Ramadan, big comapnies are now following suit, including OSN in Media City now hosting a share fridge.
All the fridges are all labelled with invite signs written in various languages, including English, Urdu and Hindi. Sayed says: “One fridge can serve about 150 people a day.”
If you want to take part in the fridge sharing concept, check out the Google Map of locations here. Alternatively, you can start your own Ramadan fridge. Just inform the Facebook group so they can add it to the list.
