The highly anticipated railway line by Etihad Rail set to link all seven emirates in the UAE to Saudi Arabia has reached a major milestone.

It was confirmed on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, that the railway line connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi has officially been completed.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this part of the line is a key part of the project stretching over 256 kilometres and also features 29 bridges, 60 crossings and 137 drainage channels.

The finalising of this part of the line was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Finance, and His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and Etihad Rail.

In fact, Their Highnesses installed the final piece on the railway track, officially completing this stage of the mega project.

Sheikh Maktoum referred to the completion of the Dubai and Abu Dhabi link of the UAE National Rail Network as an “important pivotal phase that shows the great benefits of this national project in linking all the emirates of the country”.

“The economic effects of linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai via the UAE National Rail Network will extend for many years,” he added. “A huge achievement chaired by my brother Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed.. the project will increase the competitiveness of the UAE and strengthen the spirit of Union between the emirates.”

The project by Etihad Rail is set to link all seven emirates in the UAE to the border with Saudi Arabia at Ghuweifat, connecting the emirates via a chain of points including Abu Dhabi, KIZAD, Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and then to Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast.
