We’re officially in December, which means it’s officially OK to spend your weekend untangling fairy lights and listening to Mariah Carey on repeat. But if you fancy venturing out of your apartment, there’s plenty happening in the city this weekend.

GETTING A SLICE OF RECORD-BREAKING CAKE

If you want to have your cake and eat it too, get down to Mall of the Emirates on Friday morning for your chance to buy a slice of record breaking cake. For the ninth year in a row, Kempinski Hotel and Mall of the Emirates have joined together in order to create the longest German stollen cake. It’s taken 30 chefs five weeks to prepare, and is a whopping 650 metres. Slices are being sold for Dhs5 and whole loafs at Dhs100. All proceeds go to The Dubai Centre for Special needs.

TIME TRAVELLING BACK TO THE EIGHTIES

Bā Restaurant & Lounge are inviting all eighties lovers to Walk This Way! from 9pm onwards with their evening of retro tunes. With 1980s décor and projections of classic films on the wall, it’s time to party like the old days. Spandex, legwarmers and neon eyeshadow optional (but totally acceptable).

This medley of unique finds, located on the lawn at Safa Park, comes complete with a DJ and a BBQ Buffet from The Archive.

Sharjah-Art

See the UAE through the eyes of photographer Noor Ali Rashid, who captured life in the region during the late 1940s until the 1970s. Widely regarded as a pioneer of photojournalism in the Gulf, he died in 2010 aged 80. This exhibit in Sharjah displays some exclusive never-seen images from the first half of his career.
