We’ve had an exciting week here at Emirates Woman – we’ve just sent our December issue to print and we think it’s probably the best issue of the year. That’s always our favourite reason to razzle on the weekend. If you’re not heading to the Abu Dhabi F1 this weekend, here are our top picks of things to see and do…

WATCHING THE PREMIERE OF MOCKINGJAY PART 1

We’ve waited an entire year but it is finally here! The last book in the Hunger Games series, Mockingjay, has been made into two films (to make it last as long as possible) and Part 1 is premiering tonight (November 20). In perhaps the slowest paced and most introspective of the books, Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) wakes up to find she is in the rebellion stronghold of District 13 and reluctantly becomes the poster child for the revolution against President Snow and the Capital.

CELEBRATING THE WEEKEND WITH CONGOROCK AND FELIX CARTEL

congorock

Zero Gravity has a special treat us this weekend – Italian-born, LA-based DJ, Congorock will be on the decks tonight, November 20, alongside Canadian DJ and vocal virtuouso, Felix Cartal. After spending the summer touring with the likes of Skrillex and Deadmau5, Congorock is embarking on his first Middle East and Africa tour. Both Congorock and Felix Cartel are masters at collaborations and remixes with talented vocalists, so we’re likely to hear a wide variety of high energy music at one of Dubai’s best beachside venues. SEEING SAHAND HESAMIYAN’S KHALVAT EXHIBITION

third line

The Third Line gallery in Al Quoz is hosting the first solo Dubai exhibition of Iranian artist Sahand Hesamiyan. The exhibition focuses on contemporary sculptural practice whilst exploring themes and symbolism in traditional Islamic and Persian architecture. The result is a rather haunting, futuristic aerodynamic shapes blended with incredible geometric facets reminiscent of the patterned domes found in many historic mosques. INDULGING IN MAGNOLIA’S PECAN PIE

Magnolia Bakery Pecan Pie

Winter is almost upon us and while it may not be the kind of cold winter that many of us are used to, it’s still a great time to indulge in tastes and flavours that we’d usually associate with the build up to the festive season. One of Magnolia’s November treats is the deliciously nutty Pecan Pie. To taste this seasonal treat head to Magnolia Bakery in Bloomingdale’s at The Dubai, The Galleria in Abu Dhabi and now The Beach in JBR. Phone  (04) 3505440 for more information.
