Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II marked her first anniversary without her husband, Prince Philip, over the weekend.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away earlier this year in April at the age of 99.

This year would have marked 74 years of marriage for the couple.

According to royal reporter Chris Ship, Her Majesty is currently at Windsor Castle and was marking the day “privately”.

The then Princess Elizabeth married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten on November 20, 1947. Less than five years after their wedding, the princess took to the throne after the death of her father, King George VI.

Throughout her reign, Prince Philip was a source of support and consistency for the Queen, a vow he took when he promised to be her “liege man of life and limb” at the coronation in 1953.

The news of Prince Philip’s death was announced in April 2021.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” a statement from the palace read.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

Prince Philip, who was born in Greece in 1921, was due to turn 100 in June of this year.
