Genius hacks!

Other than being a Bollywood and Hollywood star, Priyanka Chopra is also considered a beauty icon. Despite being crowned Miss World at 18-years-old, the actress insists that she struggled with insecurity.

“Growing up, I had very low self-esteem,” she tells Women’s Health. “I always felt different. I was insecure into my 20s, unsure of who I was.”

In her 30s, she had a revelation: “You’re not born with confidence; you have to teach yourself to be confident.” One way she did that? By giving herself pep talks in the mirror. “I told myself every single day that I’m good at my job,” she says. “There’s a confidence from knowing you’re good at something.”

The Sky is Pink actress also revealed some skincare tips and hacks that will help you feel radiant and glowing.

Sunblock, always!

“I like to use the Obagi Pro-C Suncare sunblock [Priyanka is brand ambassador for the brand.] People don’t realise that every skin type needs sunblock or sun protection. I love that it doesn’t give the whitish stains you get with sunblock. This one doesn’t get ashy at all because it has a matte finish. It works beautifully under make-up.”

Never sleep with make-up on!

“The most important thing is to take off your make-up before you go to bed at night. It should be almost like a routine, like how we brush our teeth!”

Bright lipstick to boost mood

“All the make-up that I own is literally donations from my make-up artists because I don’t use make-up everyday as much. Whenever I’m feeling run-down, I wear a bright mouth. I feel like it distracts from my exhaustion. That means whenever you’ve seen me in a brighter lip, I’m feeling really tired! I do love MAC’s Ruby Woo. I’ve worn it for years and I feel like that’s a red that works on every skin type and it’s a beautiful, deep matte red.”

Emphasise eyebrows

“I thread my eyebrows. I think threading is better than waxing, for sure. It doesn’t pull at your skin as much. It’s very precise. I like to keep the front of my eyebrows a little natural. I like my eyebrows looking groomed. If they frame your face right, then you don’t need very much make-up. Eyebrow pencils are very important to me — I’m using a Dior one at the moment.”

Embrace DIY beauty recipes

“I use a mask called ubtan. It’s not for sensitive skin, but I use this on my face as well: it’s basically yogurt, little lemon, a pinch of turmeric powder, and flour. You put it on your body and scrub it off like an exfoliant. Lighter skin should be careful because turmeric can stain your skin, but I’ve always found it very healing, especially after a day in the sun. I also love a coconut oil head massage. It’s very, very Indian! And works so well. It keeps the circulation on your scalp going and it’s relaxing and then you just wash it off. Hot coconut oil is even more relaxing but I sometimes don’t have the luxury for that.”

Don’t skimp on skincare while travelling

“I just have quick couple of steps that I do in the morning, and a couple of steps that I do at night, depending on how much I’m travelling, how my skin’s feeling. Air travel dehydrates your skin a lot, and I’m on a plane almost every seven days. So it’s important to keep it hydrated. I try and experiment with different sheet masks while flying. The second thing I use is an amazing moisturiser right before I land. I keep my Obagi Hydrate Luxe with me everywhere. It’s in my bag, it’s in my toiletry case. Right before I land, I just put a bunch of it before I do my make-up. And I feel absolutely fresh.”

Prioritise small wellness wins

“My life is crazy in terms of how much I travel. I try and work out whenever I get an opportunity. I train at the gym whenever I can, which is not as often as I would like. I make sure I eat right, getting salads, lots of veggies.

“I think that’s really important. I make sure I keep my water bottle with me all the time and I always have to refill it. As soon as I finish it, I like top it off again. I feel like what you put inside of your body reflects in what you see outside: How you eat, how much rest you can get, how much water you drink. Drink water all day! It’s the elixir of life.”
