Priyanka and her husband Nick Jonas welcomed their daughter Maltie Marie in early 2022. Without revealing much, the Quantico actor shared in an instagram statement that she’s beginning the journey of motherhood via surrogacy. Deep diving into this intimate fragment of her life a little more, Priyanka revealed how freezing her eggs gave her the freedom to pursue her ambitions without the fear of her biological clock ticking. “I felt such freedom, I did it in my early thirties; and I could continue on an ambitious warpath. I wanted to achieve, and I wanted to get to a certain place in my career.”

Her mother Madhu Chopra, who is an obstetrician-gynecologist, insisted Priyanka, who was 35-years-old at the time to consider this path realistically. “Also, I had not met the person I wanted to have children with. So, with that anxiety-inducing, my mum who’s an ob-gyn was like just do it. I tell everyone to freeze their eggs. My mum had said to do it as many times as you need to me, and I did do it for myself as well.”

With more and more women opting for different lifestyles that doesn’t necessarily involve nesting in the early 20s, Priyanka’s practical advice is for keeps. “I tell all my younger friends that the biological clock is for real. It gets so much harder to get pregnant after 35 and to carry to term and all of that. Especially for women who have been working all their lives. But science is at such an amazing place right now that if you can afford it, this is the best gift you will give yourself because you are taking the power of your biological clock. You can work for however long, your eggs will be of the same age as when you froze them.”

What does freezing your egg mean?

The procedure of egg freezing is also known as cryopreservation. This process involves harvesting a woman’s egg to elongate her chances of having babies beyond a certain age. This is popular method that allows women a chance at motherhood, without the restriction of their biological clock.

What does the procedure entail?

The medical procedure to freeze your eggs involves injecting the ovaries with multiple hormones to produce eggs that are then retrieved for storage. Later, the eggs are combined with the sperm to create an embryo — the embryo can then be implanted into the uterus through an embryo transfer cycle.

Who is it for?

According to studies, it is recommeded that women who want to opt for a later pregnancy can freeze their eggs in their late 20s and early 30s. Women are born with a limited number of eggs and unfortunately with time and age the quality of eggs depreciates — narrowing the fertility window as well.
